Harbottle, near Rothbury, Northumberland, NE65 7DG

Located on The Sandstone Way and Pennine Cycleway (NCN 68), The Star Inn is a traditional country pub with a wood fired pizzeria, village shop and tourist information centre in the picturesque village of Harbottle in the Northumberland National Park. The pub has a large courtyard with seating and is walker and cyclist friendly, and welcomes families and dogs. Hot drinks are available and there is a good range of homemade flapjacks/cakes, chocolate bars, crisps, fruit and soft drinks.

The Star Inn was built as a coaching inn over 200 years ago, and similarly to many other properties in the village, was built using sandstone from the ruins of nearby Harbottle Castle. The pub is steeped in history and would have once been used by drovers crossing the Anglo-Scottish border just a few miles away in The Cheviot Hills.

Today, the pub is a popular village local in a stunning, peaceful area of Coquetdale within the Northumberland National Park and International Dark Sky Park. It has local beers, a selection of wines, courtyard seating, hot drinks and cakes - and has a wood fired pizzeria serving delicious pizza, pasta and more. There is a well-stocked shop at the rear of the pub, which is also an official Information Point for the Northumberland National Park.

The pub is dog-friendly and welcomes walkers, cyclists, bikers and families in an area very well placed for relaxing or exploring the great outdoors.

New owners, Phil and Karen, took over the pub in August 2019 and have been lovingly refurbishing it and extending the facilities, whilst continuing with many of the local traditions and fundraising activities they inherited.
