The Forestry Commission have announced: we have some forestry works starting in Simonside in September. We will be thinning the area around Simonside car park, during which time the car park and forest roads around it will be closed to public access due to safety. Unfortunately, this includes part of the route of the Sandstone Way. I would expect works to last for a couple of months, although this is very tentative and subject to weather, breakdowns etc. A map showing the works (in hatching), the Sandstone Way route (in green) and a proposed diversion (in red). I’m afraid the surface isn’t to the same standard as the forest roads, but it is the most appropriate route we can come up with.
