Incredibly scenic and relativley easy going route along the Northumberland Coast.

This aptly names cycle route extends for 192 miles between Newcastle and Edinburgh of which 85 miles follow or lie close to the magnificent Northumberland coastline so richly blessed with fine scenery and heritage links. Many miles of this flat and continually scenic coastal route as far as Berwick on Tweed offer constantly changing views of the sea and provide fascinating glimpses into a mingle of the coastline’s history and culture. Magnificent castles in various states of survival stand proudly and defiantly along its alignment. Rocky headlands protect countless coves and bays of all sizes. Onshore reserves and coastal islands provide wildlife havens which The Coast & Castles Cycle Route threads together. South to north is probably more likely to be wind assisted.
The official start according to the Sustrans map is from Newcastle Train Station, however a Tynemouth start/finish is more commonly used.
